ABOUT
The prompt here was to conceptualize a department store structure and to create a narrative around why it exists. Drawing Inspiration from Langham Place in Hong Kong, Galeries Lafayette in Paris, and KaDeWe in Berlin, I created a stacked S shaped structure mimicking the S|S monogram in Sadé + Shaniya. Composed of mixed metal (aluminum and steel), floor to ceiling green glass windows, marble flooring, and a tempered green glass elevator this free form S structure is a simple, yet striking masterpiece.
éS|Se is an American luxury department store curated by Sadé Lewis in 2020. The store derives from the lifestyle and luxury fashion brand Sade | Shaniya, founded in 2015. Located in Brooklyn, New York on the historical grounds at Weeksville Heritage Center, éS|Se serves not only as a shopping center carrying existing and emerging BIPOC brands, but as a cultural hub dedicated to serve the community.
